Pruning/Tree Trimming
At Ahrens Arbor Care, we prioritize the health of your trees and shrubs. As an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certified arborist, I have dedicated significant time to mastering the principles of effective pruning. In urban environments, trees often grow outward and bushy due to a lack of competition, resulting in poor structure and an increased risk of splitting. Regular, proactive pruning early in a tree’s life is crucial for preventing growth and clearance issues. Proper pruning promotes the longevity and health of your trees, ultimately saving you time and money while addressing common challenges in Midwest landscapes such as:
- Ground and structure clearance for houses, sheds, overhead lines, yard work, roadways, fieldwork, etc.
- Structural integrity to defend against the elements, i.e. wind and ice damage
- Aesthetics to ensure an even and well-balanced canopy
- Fruit and flower production to maintain abundant healthy yields year after year
- Disease, pest, and branch shedding mitigation
Stump Removal
Ahrens Arbor Care can remove your stumps and roots, leaving your yard with one less obstacle to mow around, one less problem to look at, and one more task to take off your to-do list. Stump grinding can be dangerous and labor-intensive. Safety is our number one priority to ensure flying debris stays contained in the work zone and not hitting your windows. We always leave a clean site that will be ready for your next project.
Tree Removal
At Ahrens Arbor Care tree removal is a last resort. While it is sometimes necessary to remove a tree, we first exhaust all other means of preserving your tree when possible. If removal is required, we stand ready to ensure a safe and efficient work site while remaining cost-effective and conscientious of your home and landscape. Every tree removal presents unique challenges to overcome whether it requires rigging equipment to control precarious limbs or felling (dropping) a tree from the ground we have extensive experience to make sure your tree removal is smooth and stress-free while leaving you with a clean and safe yard.
Emerald Ash Borer Treatment
The destructive emerald ash borer beetle has killed hundreds of millions of ash trees where it has been discovered.
Ahrens Arbor Care is dedicated to treating ash trees that have been affected and keeping them healthy so they can continue to live long lives.
Plant Health Care Services
Plant health care is a holistic, comprehensive program to manage the health, structure, and appearance of plants in the landscape. This means exploring all possible methods for managing your trees and shrubs before considering removal as the last resort.
Tree and shrub pest and disease testing
- Are your trees or shrubs showing signs of a problem such as early leaf drop or early color change? Unusual patches of dead material? If the root of the issue cannot be determined on-site, let’s send a sample to the University of Minnesota Plant Disease Clinic to find out what is wrong and how we can manage it.
Tree treatments
- From trunk injections for Emerald Ash borer and Oak Wilt to fruit tree and spruce/pine tree spraying we can find a solution to what ails your trees.
Soil testing
- Are your trees or shrubs underperforming or not even growing? Let’s start by taking some samples of your soil.
Soil amendments
- Soil amendments will follow the recommendations based on soil testing. This will ensure we address the root of your growing pains.
Cabling and bracing
- Do you have a special tree with poor structure or are you concerned your tree might fail the next time a sparrow lands on it wrong? Modern cabling and bracing provide impressive structural support to poorly structured trees.
Lightning protection
- Trees that tower above their surroundings, whether near homes, in busy parks, or those of historical significance or high economic value, are prime candidates for lightning protection. Lightning is a formidable and widespread force that can have devastating effects on trees. It can travel between trees, leading to explosions or disintegration, and may even cause gradual decline over several years.
